We are a Roman Catholic Community desiring to be God's light in the world by our witness, love and worship.

Parish Life

Three Choirs – regular choir practices are announced in the bulletin. All choirs join to provide the music for the Easter Triduum each year. A generous social is held in late spring to honour the vital contribution of this ministry to good liturgy in the parish.

Prayer Circle – An impressive group of some forty parishioners have a well-organized phone tree to respond to individual requests for prayer and petition. A smaller group has recently started meeting on a regular basis for intercessory prayer and conversation.

Liturgical Ministries – Well over 300 parishioners serve in a wide variety of ministries ranging from distributing communion, proclaiming Scripture, ushering and greeting, folding bulletins, music ministry, Children’s Liturgy, serving Mass, bringing communion to the hospital and shut-ins and washing the church linens. Schedules for the Sunday Liturgy ministries are made up in the fall for the entire year. Workshops for the liturgical ministries are held every fall at which time parishioners can sign up for the year. Should new parishioners not included on the list desire to be active in these ministries, we encourage them to contact our parish office and indicate their interest. Then their names will be added to the spare list until such time that they can become regular ministers.

Small Christian Communities – During Advent and Lent several parishioners form small groups to read and reflect on the Sunday Scriptures. Some groups continue meeting throughout the entire year.

Outreach to new parishioners – As in many towns and cities in our province, Humboldt has been seeing a great influx of new residents in the past few years. This, needless to say, has a direct effect on our parish community. In the past twelve months over forty new families have registered with us (not counting those who have not officially announced their arrival)! An enthusiastic committee of ten parishioners has taken on the ministry to visit new parishioners and to help them to feel at home in their new faith community. We now honour the arrival of new parish members twice a year, spring and fall, by offering them complimentary tickets to the Knights of Columbus breakfast.

Adult Faith Formation & Bible Studies

While in the previous season we focused a lot on some basic Bible study, this 2007/2008 season has been full of adult learning of a different sort:

  • We have shared on the Saints of Humboldt during Advent.
  • We learned about Forgiveness & Healing as a Faith Community during Lent.
  • Many of us gathered for a day-long Parish Retreat where we prayed and reflected together on the Eucharist -- A Life Taken, Blessed, Broken and Shared
  • And in this Easter Season, we have been exploring ways to help one another grow more fully into an Easter People, equipped for Mission

Well over 100 parishioners took advantage of these varied Adult Learning opportunities this past year. We will resume a new set of parish-based learning opportunities in the fall. Parishioners are invited to submit topics of interest for future sessions.

Lay Leaders of Prayer – The ministry of leading the faith community in prayer and worship is a unique privilege for an increasing number of parishioners. Presently we have ten parishioners trained and ready to serve the parish in this capacity. Formation sessions are offered in the parish as the need arises and interest emerges. Some of these lay leaders preside and preach at funeral vigils, others preside and preach at parish-based Liturgies of the Word when our pastor is absent on either a weekday or on a Sunday.
